Photo storage and sharing
I discovered recently that Amazon is providing unlimited photo storage for Amazon Prime users. We’ve been Prime users for years now mainly for the next day delivery option, Amazon Music and Prime video so it was interesting to find out more about an untapped feature.
So you can access Photos via a browser or dedicated app. Members can upload an unlimited amount of full-resolution photos in many different formats including their original RAW format, edited files like TIFFs or PSDs and all the exported photos in JPG. One small downside is that this covers photos only and there is a 5GB storage limit for ‘non-photo’ files such as video.
So while it doesn’t provide a comprehensive cloud storage solution for photos and video, it’s certainly a feature I will start to use. And for someone with a collection of images captured by phone or camera that either aren’t currently backed up (alarm bells) or have just back up on a hard drive, it’s a welcome extra level of security.
There is also the additional feature to share images so it potentially provides a good alternative to WeTransfer or Dropbox. To do this you have to be in Amazon Drive, select the folder and then either copy the link, share by email or share over social media. (I’m not quite sure what Drive does that Photos doesn’t but I’m sure it will become clearer the more I use it…).
